Planning your wedding at Charlotte House in Lincoln? If you’re looking for a photographer who’ll capture the real moments without making your wedding feel like one long photoshoot, I’d love to hear from you.
I’m James, the photographer behind 3rdEyeImages Wedding Photography, and I’m proud to be a recommended wedding photography supplier at Charlotte House.
I’ve spent time working with several couples on wedding photography shoots at the venue, getting to know its layout, surroundings and the different opportunities it offers for photographs.
Although I haven’t yet photographed a complete wedding day here, I know the venue and have photographed couples in its setting.
And for me, that’s a great starting point. The surroundings might be familiar, but every couple brings their own story.
Wedding Photography
charlotte house
Situated in Lincoln’s historic Cathedral Quarter, directly opposite Lincoln Castle, Charlotte House is a distinctive wedding venue combining an Art Deco hotel with the character and surroundings of The Lawn.
Its location is one of the things that makes it particularly interesting from a photography perspective.
You’ve got the hotel itself, the surrounding gardens, impressive architecture and the historic streets of uphill Lincoln nearby.
It’s a venue that gives couples a variety of settings without necessarily needing to travel elsewhere for their photographs.
Having worked with couples here, I’ve been able to explore how those different surroundings work in photographs and how to make use of them without everything feeling overly staged.
But while the setting is important, I always believe the best wedding photographs come from the people and moments within it.
a wedding venue full of character
One of the things I like about Charlotte House is that it doesn’t feel like a typical countryside wedding venue.
There’s a mixture of architectural character, contemporary spaces and historic surroundings.
The Orangery offers a bright setting with its impressive glass wall, while other spaces around Charlotte House and The Lawn provide different options for ceremonies and celebrations.
The grounds also give couples somewhere to step away for a few quieter photographs without losing the atmosphere of the venue.
And being so close to Lincoln Castle adds another dimension to the setting.
What I particularly appreciate is that there’s variety without having to turn your wedding photographs into a lengthy tour of different locations.
You can make the most of the surroundings and still spend the majority of your day enjoying your guests.
photographing couples at charlotte house
I’ve had the opportunity to work with several couples on wedding photography shoots at Charlotte House.
These have given me a chance to become familiar with the venue, explore different compositions and understand how its surroundings photograph.
But there’s an important distinction between photographing a couple during a dedicated shoot and documenting a complete wedding day.
A wedding moves at its own pace. There are unexpected reactions, conversations, laughter and moments that nobody could have planned.
And those are the things I enjoy photographing most.
When I work with couples at Charlotte House, I don’t want every photograph to look like it belongs in a wedding magazine.
I want people to feel comfortable, enjoy being together and forget about the camera as much as possible.
A little guidance can make a difference, particularly if you’re nervous about photographs, but you shouldn’t need to spend the entire time worrying about how you’re standing.
Natural couple photographs around charlotte house
Charlotte House offers some lovely opportunities for couple portraits, particularly if you want a mixture of greenery and architecture.
From the gardens around The Lawn to the character of the buildings, there are plenty of possibilities without needing to spend ages away from your guests.
And because I’ve already photographed couples here, I’m familiar with several of those locations.
That doesn’t mean we’ll follow a fixed route or recreate photographs from previous shoots.
Every couple is different, and the light, weather and timing will influence where we go.
My preference is always to keep things simple.
We’ll take a little walk, have a chat and capture some natural photographs together.
I’ll offer guidance when needed, but I won’t expect you to suddenly become professional models.
And once we’ve got what we need, you can get back to enjoying your wedding.
enjoying your wedding rather than posing through it
One thing I always encourage couples to remember is that your wedding day isn’t a photoshoot.
You’ve spent months, sometimes years, planning a celebration with the people who matter most to you.
You deserve to experience it.
Yes, we’ll make time for some family photographs and a few lovely portraits together.
But those photographs shouldn’t take over your day.
The drinks reception, for example, is often one of the best opportunities for natural photographs.
Guests are catching up, congratulating you, laughing and enjoying themselves. There’s usually plenty happening without anybody needing to be directed.
I’ve written more about this in my guide to how long your wedding drinks reception should be.
For me, the most important thing is finding a balance between capturing beautiful photographs and allowing you to enjoy the experience.
why im proud to be a recommended supplier at charlotte house
Being a recommended wedding photography supplier at Charlotte House means a lot to me.
It’s a venue I’ve spent time getting to know, and I’ve enjoyed working with the couples I’ve photographed there.
But I don’t believe being recommended should automatically mean I’m the right photographer for every couple.
You should choose someone whose work you love, whose personality you connect with and whose approach suits the wedding you’re planning.
If you’re looking for somebody who will organise every photograph and direct your entire day, I might not be the right fit.
But if you want somebody relaxed, approachable and focused on capturing genuine moments while you enjoy yourselves, then we could be a great match.
That’s the kind of wedding photography I believe in.
And it’s exactly what I’d love to bring to a full wedding day at Charlotte House.
planning your charlotte house wedding
If you’re considering Charlotte House for your wedding, I’d recommend thinking about how you want the day to flow.
With the venue’s indoor spaces, gardens and historic surroundings, there are different possibilities depending on the celebration you’re planning.
But try not to make every decision based on how something might look in photographs.
Think about where you’ll feel most comfortable, how you want to spend time with your guests and what kind of atmosphere you’d like to create.
The photography should work around those decisions.
If you’re still exploring the venue, you can read my separate Charlotte House wedding venue guide for more about the setting and its photographic possibilities.
