Earlier this year, I was invited to document a completely secret Netflix production inspired by Bridgerton, filmed inside the historic Newark Town Hall ballroom.

What I believed would be a styled shoot quickly became one of the most emotional and meticulously planned surprise events I have ever photographed - capturing real reactions, real people and s moment that will never happen again.

THE BRIDGERTON SURPRISE AT NEWARK TOWN HALL

The Newark Town Hall ballroom was transformed into a full Regency-era setting, complete with rich gold and red drapery, florals, period décor and a production set created especially to surprise a devoted Bridgerton fan.

When the partition wall opened and the ballroom was revealed, the reaction was immediate and unforgettable — shock, disbelief and overwhelming emotion as the cast, music and atmosphere revealed a world she never expected to step into.

The most powerful moment followed shortly after, when her family appeared behind her.

Tears, hugs and completely genuine emotion filled the room — exactly the kind of moments I quietly and unobtrusively specialise in documenting.

The set up

before and after edits

Photo shop is. a tool I use on every wedding to subtly remove small distractions and refine an image, but never usually to this extent.

In thus case, the level of post-production was necessary to present the ballroom in its full glory - showing the space both with the required media equipment in place and as a clean, uninterrupted setting once it had been carefully removed.
